Lydia E. Gates

As the granddaughter of Levi Gates, Lydia would have surely been raised

on the tales of her grandfather’s great escapades during the French and Indian War as well as his service durng the Revolutionary War.

How Lydia met Edwin is somewhat of a mystery, however we know from an entry by Edwin’s own hand in the Perry Family Bible that she arrived from New York in Indiana and married Edwin on May 21, 1837.
