Edwin Perry

Edwin Perry
Builder of The Brick House

Edwin Perry was born on July 2, 1818 in Quebec, Canada to Luke and Irene Perry. He was the third of four children and was born in his parent’s latter years.

As the grandson of, Benoni Patrick, a member of the American Revolutionary War Militia, Edwin was taught at a young age to work hard for your dreams and fight for your convictions.

This would be a theme that would follow the Perry lineage closely…

It is unclear what led Luke Perry, Edwin’s father to move his family to Quebec, however it would appear there was a settlement there of Vermont and Massachusetts residents and the Perry Family joined this group there.

After Luke’s death in 1825, Irene, Edwin’s mother, brought her children back to America and they settled temporarily in the Pennsylvania area.

In 1836, at the age of 18, Edwin ventured out on his own and wished his family a fond farewell in order to push westward in to the new and exciting land known as Indiana.

Indiana had gained Statehood on December 11, 1816, and by the 1830’s change was ringing throughout much of the State!

Major advancements were being made in transportation and this included a lock system for the Wabash River, a connected network of railroad lines, and a revolutionary new style of road that connected regions and not just towns. The “Internal Improvements Act of 1836” was turning Indiana into the absolute place to be!
